Wicked the musical!

Who has seen Wicked the musical? Do you know the story?

Taking place in the Land of Oz, a long time before Dorothy arrives, Wicked tells the

story of two young witches, Elphaba, a smart, fiery and somewhat shy girl with

emerald green skin who grows up to become the Wicked Witch of the West and

Galinda, a popular girl who grows up to be known as Glinda the Good.

Elphaba and Galinda first meet at Shiz university when the headmistress, Madame

Morrible, assigns the to share a dorm room together. From the start, Galinda has a strong dislike towards Elphaba, and the feeling becomes mutual as they clash with each other a lot. As the story develops, their rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships, until the world decides one is “good” and the other is “wicked.”

In class, Doctor Dillamond, tells Elphaba about a conspiracy to stop all animals from

speaking. She vows that if she ever meets the Wizard, she will tell him and help him

to stop it. Doctor Dillamond tells his class that he is leaving as he is no longer allowed to teach.

Another Professor informs the students about a cage that is designed especially to

prevent any animal from speaking. Elphaba is furious and decides to escape.

Madam Morrible arrives and tells her that the Wizard wants to meet her.

At the train station, Elphaba invited Galinda to join her.

Upon meeting the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba and Galinda discover that he is not as

scary as they thought. He promises to grant Elphaba her request if she can prove

herself. Madam Morrible appears and gives Elphaba a book of spells which only the

magically gifted can read.

Elphaba is shocked when she discovers that the Wizard is a fraud and a liar and is

behind the suppression of animals, fleeing his chamber. Galinda begs her to go back

and apologise but Elphaba insists on standing up for what is right asking Galinda to

join her. Galinda refuses and Elphaba flies away from Emerald City on a broom

singing Defying Gravity. Madam Morrible spreads a message through the Land of

Oz that Elphaba is a wicked witch. Galinda then becomes a lead speaker for the

Wizard who gives her the title of “Glinda the Good.”

Elphaba visits her sister, Nessarose, who is the Governor of Munchkinland and asks

her to join the rebellion against the Wizard, but she refuses. Elphaba returns to the

Emerald City to free the Wizard’s monkey servants. Again, the Wizard tries to

convince her to work with him. When Elphaba discovers Dr. Dillamond who can no

longer speak, she escapes again and vows to fight the Wizard to the end.

An upset Glinda, tells the Wizard and Madame Morrible that if they spread a rumour

that Nessarose is in trouble, Elphaba will appear to save her and then they can

capture her. Madam Morrible and the Wizard do not think that a rumour is enough

and propose to make a change in the weather. This causes a house to fall out of the

sky and crushes Nessarose to death. This is the scene where Dorothy arrives.

When Elphaba arrives, she finds out that Glinda has given Nessarose’s shoes to

Dorothy and captures her until she gives the shoes back.

Glinda realises that Madam Morrible was responsible for the tornado that brought the

house down and she arrives to warn Elphaba of the danger she is in, asking her to

release Dorothy. Elphaba refuses, and the two forgive each other and say goodbye.

Glinda then hides as she watches Dorothy throw a bucket of water over Elphaba

which melts her. All that is left is her pointy black hat.

As it turns out, Elphaba fakes her death and knows that she will never be able to see

Glinda again. Sadly, Glinda tells everyone that the Wicked Witch is dead, and all the people of Oz celebrate.
